District 16 - Cornwall - Meadowbank

First elected in a by election in December, 1985, Ron has been returned to Province House by the voters in his district in every election since. His political duties were expanded in April, 2000 when he became Leader of the Opposition. With this new role came a seat on all other Legislative Committees. He recently served as the Opposition Critic for Transportation and Public Works, Agriculture, Forestry, Fisheries and Aquaculture. He also served on a number of Legislative Committees and was Chair of the Public Accounts Committee. On June 12, 2007 he was appointed Minister of Transportation and Public Works.
Ron is highly regarded as a community-minded representative and is deeply connected to the people of Cornwall-Meadowbank. He knows the challenges his constituents face on a daily basis. He has never lost sight of how important it is to be a constituency politician. “These are people who have supported me through the years and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be here”.
Ron has a lengthy record of community involvement. He has been vice-chair of the Elliot River CIC, a director of the P.E.I. Federation of Agriculture and of the P.E.I. Farm Centre. He is a former member of the Canadian Horticultural Council Labour Board and Uniform Legislation Board, as well as a former Queens County Chair for the P.E.I. Potato Producers' Association.
Ron and his son Jamie operate MacKinley Bros., a mixed farming operation.
He lives in Cornwall with his wife Ann. They have three grown children, Joanne (Eddie) Curran Jamie (Shauna ) and Jeff, and three granddaughters, Lauren Emma Curran, and Alexa and Breanne MacKinley.
