District 22, Summerside-St. Eleanors ![]()
Gerard Greenan was elected to the Legislative Assembly in May 2007, representing the district of Summerside - St. Eleanors. After having served as the Minister of Education and Early Childhood Development, Attorney General, he is now working full time for his constituents.
Gerard Greenan was born in 1950 in Charlottetown, the third of eight children. After graduating from Saint Dunstan's High School in 1967, he received his B.A.(1971) and BEd.(1973) from UPEI. He obtained a Master of Education (Counselling) from Acadia University in 1991 and then did post graduate studies in school administration at Saint Mary's University in 1992.
Mr. Greenan began his 32-year career in education by teaching at several elementary schools in the Western School Board. Following three years of service as a school guidance counsellor, he became principal of Amherst Cove Consolidated School and vice-principal of Summerside Intermediate School, where he served until his retirement in 2005.
Mr. Greenan is married to Elizabeth (Nicholson) and they have two adult sons, Jonathan and Mark. The Greenans live in Summerside where Gerard has served with several community organizations such as the Rotary Club of Summerside, Generation XX, Summerside Housing Authority and East Prince Hospice Association. For several years he was a member of the Summerside Community Choir. He is a member of St. Paul's Parish and a life member of the Summerside Curling and Yacht Club. Gerard enjoys traveling, playing bridge, and watercolour painting.
